Center for Innovation in Point-of-Care Technologies for HIV/AIDS and Emerging Infectious Diseases at Northwestern (C-THAN)

Funder: National Institutes of Health, National Institute Of Biomedical Imaging And Bioengineering, Award Number U54EB027049

Stellenbosch University faculty member Grant Theron serves as the site Principal Investigator on this 5 year grant to improve point of care devices support the development of a pipeline of Point-of-Care Technologies designed to meet the clinical needs of people who live with HIV/AIDS in low- and middle-income countries. C-THAN has assembled a scientific consortium made up of Northwestern University, Universities of Lagos, Ibadan and Jos (Nigeria), Cape Town and Stellenbosch (South Africa), University of Sciences, Techniques and Technologies of Bamako (Mali) and Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences (Tanzania).

Building the Next Generation of Researchers in TB/HIV Diagnostics in Mali (B-NextGen)

Funder: National Institutes of Health, Fogarty International Center, Award Number D43TW010350

The overarching goal of this research training program is to strengthen the scientific capacity to develop and implement diagnostic and monitoring technologies to address the HIV and TB epidemics. This program aim to achieve the overall goal of training the next generation of scientists and leaders in diagnostics of HIV and mycobacterial diseases in Mali and the region. Stellenbosch University faculty serve as collaborators in developing the training opportunities and advising on implementing the new degree programs at USTTB.
